<If the power of Intel's brand is for real, this shouldn't bother you or worry you. ... Add to that the (probably) greater (offseting) cost of the motherboard/infrastructure and this price war you're declaring just doesn't exist.>

Kevin, can you answer these questions for me:

1) How much do you think the Intel brand name is worth?

2) How much more do you think Athlon motherboards will cost compared to Intel's 440BX-based motherboards? Remember that one of the motherboard manufacturers out there said that Athlon motherboards will be priced similarly to 440BX motherboards.

3) How much more do you think it costs AMD to manufacture one Athlon at 500 MHz or greater, including L2 cache? Consider its large die size and initial low yields. How would it compare to the costs of manufacturing a Pentium III at speeds of 500 MHz or greater?

4) How much more would the average consumer pay to get an Athlon over a Pentium III at equivalent speeds?

5) Judging from the answers to the previous four questions, would you say that AMD is still trying to fight a price war or not?
