The speed is 14.4k, the link goes to a fixed UP server which offers fixed locations, such as stock quotes, airline reservations, etc. The service is not yet up on most of the carriers, but will be up later this year (according to Airtouch). The phone also has the complete data modem stack in it, so if and when the carriers implement data service, the phone is already enabled. Just get a data cable and hook this up to your laptop for wirelss modem on the road. Another side benefit of the data cable is that you can also use the connectivity kit, which allows you to redo all your phone numbers in the phone by uploading them into your PC, redoing them, and then downloading them back in. Or you can merge numbers in, like keep the first 20 for you personal stuff and the last 8- for the business your doing at the time, such as all your contacts in a particular city that you travel to.
