Analysts polled by First Call were expecting a profit of 23 cents a share on average. Last year the the company posted a second-quarter loss of 17 cents a share. The quarter benefited from "significant" volume gains in the company's aluminum products business Commonwealth said in a statement. Commonwealth was able to increase capacity at a continuous casting facility to 28 million pounds per month during the quarter, much faster than anticipated. The company expects to be about 23 percent ahead of its volume for the same period a year ago. The company added that its rolling mill in Lewisport, Kentucky is expected to surpass its year-ago production volume by about 17 percent. The report is due out on or about July 22. Shares traded up 3 7/8 to 13 7/8.
