Nihil, my point in my post to Terrence was that somehow public services and social safety nets need to be paid for in societies. If a country chooses to do this by setting up a tax-evasion business for the entire planet, it is certainly possible not to collect income taxes on their own people, just as it would be if oil was struck or something like that. However, either you have the above situation, or you have a society which is for the most part extremely poor and desperate, with an upper class and almost no middle class. Nothing you have said suggests to me that a society with no income tax is desirable, really.

When do you think the Hawaiians will achieve their independence? There seem to be so many mainland Americans living there, or owning property there, that open rebellion seems distant. How exactly do you think it could happen?
