Walter,

<<Is it possible for MCI to implement ADSL to our businesses and homes even if
the Rbocs decide to delay, delay, delay?>>

IMHO, this is why you see MCI deploy trials in a "non-RBOC" area. The
plan is mostly for rural areas because they will not have the RBOC
issue....and they have they own plans for major municipalities. I
believe they have their own infrastructure which they have spent
billions on to offer local service to BUSINESSES. For the other areas,
you would need to work with who owns the copper in the ground.

I'm anxious to see how the service will be tarriffed. I believe the
telcom laws allow for "RBOC Resale" for services offered by the
RBOCS...I don't know if this applies to value added services like ADSL.
I suspect it does.

Not to throw any stones...but this is typical MCI hype announcement.
They are conducting trials only...with alot of vendors...time will tell
who will win and what it means.

On a more positive note, I am very excited about Siemens/Alcatel
connection. These two companies OWN Europe from a Telco equipment
perspective. I should say they do quite well in Asia and the Pacific
Rim. These two players on a Amati team can only be very positive.

From a US strategy viewpoint, a majority of the RBOC switches are
from Northern Telecom & Lucent (former AT&T switches). I would think
they would have a leg up with vendor negotiations with similar products.
I sure would like to see a Lucent connection somewhere. In fact, I was
surpised to see Alcatel as the JPC winner in the US.

Forgive my rambling...so to answer the question..could the RBOC's
delay ADSL entry...yes they could... they own the copper. You can
read about the bickering/delay tactics between the RBOC/GTE and the
long distance companies. My hope is the bypass carriers will start
offering ADSL to businesses...this will spur the RBOCS/GTE to move
quicker..competition usually does.

Just some thoughts......

Bob
