Since you are a Sci-Fi fan, Lather, I assumed you were "conversant with" Superstring Theory, because it purports to be the Theory of Everything. If correct, it could serve as the unifying principle that Einstein vainly sought, the one that would reconcile quantum mechanics and his general theory of relativity! Hurrah!

Besides, you once cited Edwin Abbot's Flatlands, which superstringers also love to cite (to show how it is just as difficult for us to comprehend a 10-dimensional universe posited by Superstring Theory as it would be for a 2-dimensional creature to understand the third dimension).

The only reason I know this is because cosmology is the hobby of one of my sons, who is forever force-feeding me with the "latest developments." <g>
