Citing the recent introduction of the Versalar 25000, a high-speed router of more modest capabilities than Avici's router, Jain suggested that Nortel is looking to fill its high-end requirements through technology developed by the engineering team acquired with the purchase of Bay Networks. In addition, Jain said Nortel was readying new innovations that would enable its routing products to scale to "hundreds of terabits."
