I'm not so much surprised by the content of the IEEE letter as much as I am surprised by the timing (too little too late.) Exactly where have these guys been all this time?

I'm not so much surprised that someone played the consumer protection trump card re: the y2k liability legislation as much as I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. I told Ken weeks ago that if I were a politician looking to make political hay or establish myself as a consumer advocate or "a man/woman of the people" I would have been all over this issue like stink on sh...er, white on rice...and they would have to deal with me or deal me in.

And to an extent you are correct in that it is "old hat." Lately I scan the news and think, "What? No bad news? Someone isn't paying attention. Deadlines are being blown (even for contingency planning) and tic tock time's up."
