A few tonnage questions answered,from stockhouse(Author:JRDahr)-
Firstly, the 5 sq.km. is a little misleading because not all of the intercepts (ie. those less than say 1 m) are going to be minable. However, my "very rough" guess is:
- 2500 m x 2000 m = 5 sq. km. - 5 sq. km x 2.5 m thick x 2.6 SG - yields 32.5 million tonnes - however, not all is probably minable, - but if say 23 million tonnes are then - 23/32.5 or 66% of the drilled area has produced minable tonnages
Secondly, if this ratio (66%) of drilled area holds true, and WSP has now intercepted the dyke over an area of 20 sq. km. then:
- 4000 m x 5000 m = 20 sq. km. - 20 sq. km x 2.5 m thick x 2.6 SG - yields 130 million tonnes - and 66% of 130 million tonnes is 85.8 million tonnes - which translates into a lot of *#$%??$ diamonds!
I would find it hard to believe that they have indeed intercepted the NW dyke over an area of 20 sq. km. as the time between the latest news release on drilling (ie. when drilling stopped on lake ice but continued on the north shore) and last weeks tonnage results (ie. the drilling stopped altogether) would not be sufficient to allow more than just a few more holes!
Keep in mind though, this deposit has certainly shown the potential to have vast tonnage potential. In my mind, anything over 5 million makes it minable, and anything over 20 million makes it WORLD CLASS!
I'm meeting with a friend tommorrow who just finished a job "logging core" for Winspear, so tommorow I'll be able to give you a pretty definative answer on the 'tonnage potential' |
