doombrooders you say? funny visual that conjured up. i'm willing to weigh in i guess. anyone who looks at y2k as a date certain event ONLY is just kidding themselves.
the courage it takes to make life changing decisions is daunting, IN ANY FIELD of ENDEAVOR or CHALLENGE.
If nothing else: facing the reality of Y2K PRIOR TO 01/01/00 is a CHALLENGE the likes of which I've never previously tackled.
Let's take the physical health arena (a field of your personal intense interest?)
while the obese are motivated by desire to live longer, they certainly do not find societal cooperation in their desire to live longer. they are advised by a longstanding, honorable profession of medical practictioners/'doombrooders.'
let's take the relationship/health arena (a field of intense political interest, on the national level recently aka Willy and Monica)
while motivated by a desire to stay in office, they certainly did NOT find societal cooperation in their desire to 'not stray.' they are advised by a longstanding profession of political practictioners/'doombrooders' which fled the scene as I recall.
now lets take the fiscal restraint arena (afield of intense personal interest when property tax billings roll around semi-annually.
while highly motivated by 'conservatism and lowering of taxes' in order to achieve elected official status, they certainly do NOT find societal cooperation in implementing their pre-election pledges. they are advised by a longstanding procession of croynism and porkbarrell practictioners/'doombrooders' which somehow are there to see that the boat isn't rocked after an election.
so, why does it surprise you that there is little 'commentary' from those currently numbed out or too blase' to care, regarding the length of the 'y2k effect?'
A mere mentioning on this thread by myself a few weeks back of the unexpected candor by burlington northern that they don't have a prayer of being y2k compliant until well after 2008 only got a "WHATTTTTTTT?" by CK demanding an expired URL.
And that poor PA PUC group of concerned citizens are being told by the very utilities in their own power district they have no need of compliance information other that what they've been told by the talking heads of the legal department.
i seriously doubt this legislation will pass. sure it has been a pipe dream to hope that something will 'wake' folks up...BUT...
fat people usually stay fat, morally bankrupt usually stay in office fiscally unaccountable usually proceed to bankruptcy and ruin and y2k is still a big mystery that is marked by the NIMBY crowd.
as i said at the top, it takes courage to hear, comprehend, verify, prepare and change lifestyles of the overfed/immoral/bankrupt 'they' that once was 'us' instead of a 'them' before i put feet to my conclusions.
abraham for standing up to a few angels and fighting for Lot (when Sodom and Gomorrah bit the dust a few centuries back) rated a few chapters in sacred writ as i recall for his courage...
those of us surviving (and as old forty-niner suggested: thriving) will probably be too busy boiling water and chopping wood to 'writ' down anything.
especially since all our electronic notebooks will be non-functioning and there isn't a y2k compliant pencil in the neighborhood. bought your 2-10 year supply of 3-hole punched lined notebook paper? |
