In the hypothetical you mention, if the KKK burned a cross on your lawn, the cross-burning would be both arson and trespass. But it wouldn't be hate speech aimed at you, you've admitted to being a Georgia cracker. Now if you were back in Georgia and the KKK found out about your liberal ideas, and tried to scare you, it would clearly be intimidation.

I oppose the present policy of making "hate crimes" subject to greater penalties than others. When a heterosexual is murdered, his/her family is just as devastated, and the crime is just as heinous, as when a homosexual is murdered. Same with people who are killed for non-racial reasons vs. people who are killed for racial reasons. As long as other laws are not broken.

And I think the First Amendment means we must tolerate swastikas, KKK members carrying burning crosses, and other things we find offensive.
