I've been looking for a new laptop to use in my work
(CAD/CAM CNC programming)
As a DELL shareholder I've looked long and hard at the DELL line.
One feature I require (LS-120 Superdisk) is not available in the DELL Inspiron line. The DELL service rep I called didn't know what an LS-120 was.

I checked out Gateway, and the LS-120 drive is a standard feature in Gateway's high end laptops. After looking at a Gateway Solo 9150
on their web site I went down to the local Gateway store to look in person.

There were about 8 employees in the store. I only had to decline an offer of help once before I was left alone to wander.

I checked out a new Gateway Profile (there was an add in today's paper for them). I was impressed with it and I think they will sell alot of them. I spent about 1/2 hour in the store. During that time 3 people and 2 whole families came in to look at the Profile. I think they probably made 2 sales while I was there.

I was favorably impressed with the laptops, though I can't compare them to DELL's cause I've never seen a DELL. (One of the drawbacks to shopping on the web).

As a potential customer I was very impressed with the Gateway store,
the products and the way I was treated. As a DELL shareholder I wondered what the 8 employees and the 6000 sq feet on prime CA real estate were doing to Gateways profits.
I hate to say this as a DELL shareholder, but it looks like Gateway will get the sale when I buy my laptop. Build to order or not, DELL can't sell me what I need
