hdl: Sounds like the Barristers and Solicitors from "down under" use WordPerfect like Paul Hogan uses a Subaru. They certainly conducted a more thorough test of WP9 under heavier loads than Corel or the beta testers. I'm not concerned at this point so long as the service release corrects all known issues. I'm pleased with the timing of the quick release.
Considering the financial necessity of the Orem layoffs, restructuring, transfer of responsibilities, and the extensiveness to which the file conversion filters must operate, plus the tight web integration, and formatting to .pdf, some bugs could easily be expected as Leo pointed out. I do not give Corel a pass however for not testing all features under heavy loads. I would like to know the "inside scoop" on this one.
I remember upgrading to DOS 4.0. Microsoft never corrected it but only came out with 5.0, for which I had to pay again. At least the service pack fix doesn't cost anything, and the fact that its coming out fast, I think for the most part customers will be understanding and that things will be OK.
I notice that Windows 98 is now being sold as a "second edition" basically to correct the problems that can be downloaded on the MSFT website. Office 97 has service releases, and I'm certain that despite MSFT's extensive beta testing on their Suite, bugs will be found and patches posted to their website.
With the tremendous power of all the new software, its complexity, and relatively low price, that computer users are becoming somewhat expectant of the fact that software is an evolving concept, and with the power of the web, its acceptable.
