Well, I'll say this: you pick 'em big. I believe in Ben's adage, but he said nothing about income taxes. I think the IRS is simply the running dog of the legislature. Blameless, and shortly to be crippled. They keep writing me telling me they'll do some thing terrible (they know not what) but it will be the terror of the earth unless I pay. Noi doubt. Try to concentrate on how necessary revenues can be collected without effects detrimental to economic growth and free competition. I liked Swift's proposal -- not not that one -- the one in which men would be taxed on their virility and women on their beauty, -- both to be self-assessed.
