CTXS& JAVA--I would appreciate it if someone would comment on the validity om the following exchange. The key question I am attempting to answer is whether CTXS has bypassed JAVA for cases where a client is accessing an Application Server that is running CTXS software and is serving some applications containing JAVA applets. It seems to me like this is a very key question for those of us that believe that 1) application servers are the wave of the future and 2) that the JAVA folks are trying to horn in on this business.

CTXS is, I think, planning their software to redirect the applet calcs to the server and
transmit the screens to the thin clients. Whether there can be enough bandwidth to run the
cute little java cartoons, I do not know.

Citrix ISA is optimized to work with connections as low as 14.4 Kbps. One of the main
points of CTXS is that it works well with low bandwidth since only screen refreshes and
mouse and keyboard commands are transmitted. On any kind of bandwidth in use today
JAVA cartoons should work fine. They would run on the server and the screen would be
transmitted to the client.

Lucius Lamar--Thanks for answer. I really can't believe I actually found someone on this
board that knows anything about CTXS. If you are correct, then my interpretation is that
CTXS has made Java subsidiary to itself for internet connections. This means Java can be
used as a neat programing language to write the little applet cartoons but Java's supposed
primary advantage of being able to run those little applets on the clients will be obsoleted if
CTXS software is installed n the server. Do you agree??
