Ray, I am not quite sure where that analysis of yours comes from. If you remember the situation just a fwe months ago, you will easily recall that Intel was ahead of Cyrix and AMD by TWO processor generations. Of course, you will reply, the competitors have caught up. But how have they done it? By doing what they always did - copy the Intel architecture.

Sure, they have to have to be sufficiently different from an engineering point of view to avoid copyright violations. Note, however, how much easier it is to look at someone else's work and remodel it than to come up with something of your own. Take MMX as an example. As you certainly know, Intel filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement against both AMD and Cyrix. See e.g.

In that light, I would be extremely curious who, if not Intel, is a technology winner?
