Re:" Is this the new 750MHz 21264? The fastest 21264 I have listed is the 575MHz, which scores in at 40.9 / 47.7, compared to 48.7/51.4 of the 440MHz PA-RISC."
The fastest for the 21264 at 575 is specfp in the 57 range.
But they are shipping 600's now and 750's next month.
Don't know when HP will have 550 but I suspect they won't be top dog for a while.
Here's the PR on the 750:
API INTRODUCES FIRST EVER SLOT ARCHITECTURE FOR ALPHA AND WORLD'S FASTEST COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE 64-BIT PROCESSOR, 750MHZ ALPHA 21264
Helps Move Powerful, Industry Standards-based Alpha Solutions to Volume Markets at Unprecedented Price Points
PC EXPO, New York, NY, June 22, 1999 - Alpha Processor, Inc. (API), the leading provider of the world's fastest 64-bit microprocessor and related technologies, today introduced Alpha Slot B technology, bringing x86-style modularity and investment protection to Alpha based system design. Alpha Slot B, in combination with the 750 MHz Alpha 21264 processor, delivers unmatched enterprise server and workstation solutions for the volume commercial market. Working closely with its partners, API's solutions allow system integrators, OEMs, VARs and resellers to build innovative, powerful solutions at prices never seen before for Alpha.
"As the number of CPU-intensive applications increase, so does the need for performance, bandwidth and reliability. With API's low-cost solutions, we are invigorating the market for Alpha making it viable for broader markets," said Jeff Borkowski, API vice president of marketing. "We are convinced our customers embracing API Alpha Slot B will springboard Alpha solutions into high-volume markets where it will now effectively compete."
"The Alpha platform has typically been successful in niche markets where performance and bandwidth are critical," said Linley Gwennap, vice president of Cahners MicroDesign Resources. "The new Slot B architecture reduces deployment costs and for the first time offers investment protection." Enabling faster future Alpha variants, use of different cache sizes as well as processor frequencies, Alpha Slot B significantly lowers production costs and inventory requirements, offering industry standard packaging technology for the world's fastest 64-bit processor. Alpha Slot B incorporating the Alpha 21264 750MHz processor, is ideal for a full line of enterprise class server and workstation applications.
"With the 750-MHz 21264, Alpha once again claims the title of the world's fastest microprocessor," reported Gwennap. "Alpha has consistently delivered the fastest processors since its introduction in 1992."
Alpha Slot B allows for easy upgrades and will be incorporated into API's next-generation Alpha products including the UP1000 uni-processor platform and the UP2000 multi-processor platform (see related release). API's Alpha Slot B technology is available in a number of speed grades and cache sizes for each platform.
