Long-term politicians are why we need term limits.

Although this may come across as facetious (lacking tone of voice with just the written word), it's not intended that way.

But we do have term limits. It's called the vote. Sounds good, in theory, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to actually work that way in real life. Look at Jesse Helms. He's still in office. Ugh!
