Paul,

I drove a SUV for the first time while on a mini-vacation this weekend. Not bad. No tailgaters, no one cut us off, drivers used their lights to signal before merging/passing. In general, an extremely different experience than driving a regular car - the big size of the SUV seemed to bring out the best in everyone. However, it doesn't seem to drive as well as a regular car above 55 mph (bumpier/steering wasn't as tight). But the size of the SUV did appear to bring out the best driving behavior in the cars around. I can see why people buy them. During the weekend, I counted the # of SUVs to cars at a stop light: 7 SUV:3cars.
