The Exchange torpedoed Transpoint, CKFR's only real competitor. Adoption of the thin consolidator model sets the standard and sets back Transpoint by another 6 to 24 months, depending on how fast Microsoft can reengineer their thick approach, and given their track record, I'd bet on 2 years or more. Thus, we have the Exchange to thank for affirming, for the time being, Checkfree as a virtual monopoly.
I don't understand why the market and analysts haven't appreciated this or pointed it out. Since the Exchange is late, unproven, untested (probably vaporware), has another agenda (e.g. -- forestall portal and brokerage competition while they are Y2K frozen), and probably only want to be in the unprofitable e-presentment, not the very profitable e-payment, their competition, in itself is not to be feared much, the net net is -- thank you Exchange for improving and cementing Checkfree's massive lead on the competition.
