TwoBear: Consistent with Graham's warning (and Buffett's similar concerns), I'm beginning to wonder if any of DSL, Cable, or Satellite will make money, as such, five years from now. DSL has seen 80% price cuts over the past year, in some cases. And the high infrastructure costs of Cable and Satellite, combined with ever cheaper alternative "pipelines", also makes their long-run profitability questionable.

It seems that the Motorola-backed Iridium project got priced out of the market before it was even up and running. And, I don't think the Cable cos. really started generating free cash flow until they became content providers -- by buying up sports franchises, etc.

I think the DSL cos. that make money will be the ones that become turnkey telco systems providers and maintainers, analogous to computer services providers.
