GV,

Why was there no press release from either DELL or RMBS? I agree that it is a big deal, particularly for RMBS. Why wouldn't they want to toot their own horn a little?

My understanding is that Intel typically does the formal product introduction for their products once production actually begins (e.g. the most recent PIII intro). Their partners have to tie their introductions to the Intel introduction. (Any Intel-ites have any additional comments here?)

It's a strategy that I tend to agree with. A wonderful example of the effect of introducing a product before you're ready to ship it was the Osborne II. Adam Osborne announced the II months before it was to be released. Sales of the Osborne I dried up to nothing. The Osborne II ran into delays. Osborne (the company) went away.

Actually, the more I thought about that, the more surprised I was that Dell even said that they'd be putting RDRAM in a workstation this Fall. Unclewest's message this morning said that he expects we'll see a Rambus press campaign over the next two months. It'll be interesting to see if this happens. As a Rambus investor, in this particular case I'd be fine with that because I don't care if DELL/CPQ/HWP demand dries up in the short term if it helps increase RMBS demamd for the Fall <G>.
