I have post this in mis.investment.stocks but this group is more appropeiate. SYQT, 3Ms, and evn Avatar have the same technoloy; in fact many believe that EZ is superior. Zip won because of better marketing, earlier release and better packaging. Which brign us to why no one is buying SYQT. SYQT is worth less than $200 millions right now and even in a buy out it will be less than $300 millions; peanuts for a company like HP, Sony or Philips. In the hands of these giants, EZ and Syjet could easily compete with Zip and Jazz. They have lots of cash, marketing and packaging expertise, and superior technolgy. No one is buying SYQT because they know that Zip and Jazz are good for a year or two only. I believe that rewritable CD drives are the future. There is already a CD drive in every computer sold. Remember just a couple years ago all programs were sold in floppys. CD is that standard media now. Insight is selling an external 4x 650Mb rewritable CD drive for $625. I am sure it's not as good as the Jazz at this stage. But, Philips, Sony, Panasonic, and HP among others are working on this technology(not Zip or EZ). They are betting millions. In a year or two, our next computer will come with a rewritable CD drive. Why would most us need a Zip. For Zip to win, it must compete with CDs as the standard media. One media and one device will always beat out two. CD drive is in your computer already and next year it will back-up your files as well, it is the most logical device to replace the floppy dics. I have a Zip drive; it's great, for now. Could someone explain to me why rewritable CD would be the standard device? Why we will need a Zip when our CD can rewrite data at lower cost in the next year or two. I know that many big computer companies are offering Zip as an options because for now it's an excellent addition. Rewritable CD drives are not perfect and are too expensive for now.
