Paul - Dawned on me over the weekend that AMD has an interesting asset that Intel can't even conceive of - a tax loss carryforward. I'm not an accountant (help me out here anyone who knows this stuff cold) but I think that AMD actually has a valuable SALEABLE asset in the accumulated losses for the last couple of quarters. The cumulative tax loss carryforward must be upwards of $400,000,000. What the hell, lets just say half a billion. That loss could be used to shield from taxes otherwise taxable profits of, lets say, half a billion. Makes AMD somewhat more attractive to a profitable rescuer/buyer should they continue losing vast sums or if they remain independent and start making profits which would then be untaxed for quite some time. I may be all wet on this - they didn't teach accounting back in engineering schools in the old days and they probably don't today either.

Regards,
Burt
