The upcoming DVCR (Digital VCR) market will be for recording satellite movies and digital video via cable. Also there will be a market for time-shifting devices. The new Replay box actual uses a hard disk for storage. You can watch a TV show, pause the show and go make a sandwich, and simply resume your TV show as the Replay box records the rest of the show. Can even use it as a VCR. Considering hard disks are costing $88 for a 10 GB disk this is pretty nice functionality for cheap.

The optical guys have been screwing around for so long that they are leaving the market window open for other players. High capacity Orb is a possibility as is the OnStream drive with a disk front-end.
