MB, This saving rate thing gets me. What difference does the savings rate make? This is the wrong stat to focus on. What constitutes savings---cash in hand? Everything that has value has a risk associated with it. Are bonds considered savings? Money under the mattress savings? People may not have as many CDs as before as they think they are saving through "investment" in the stock market which, at this point, may have more risk than others. The more tale-tell stat would be the ratio of personal debt to net worth or debt to savings/investment... DJessen33
