jbe, interesting post. The one thing I find fascinating when discussing culture, values or cohesiveness as a society, is when you ask people. How do you believe your family is doing with regard to teaching your children about moral rights or wrongs? They will typically say, Oh, I think we are doing pretty good. Then you ask them, well how do you think your neighbors are doing? And they will typically say, oh, pretty good. I mean we have this one or two neighbors, but overall I would say they do a good job. Then you ask them, well how about the country as a whole, are important values being taught and communicated to our children? And they will say, Of course not! We are moving toward a valueless society!
So I find it interesting how we have this disconnect, between what we see in our neighborhoods and families, and what we perceive the nation as a whole to be going through.
