I agree. I certainly don't have the resources to do a better job that the government, but there is one thing that is certain. Both of the last two adjustments to the inflation calculations had the effect of lowering the reported CPI figures from the prior methodology by anywhere from .5%-1%. So the cumulative effect is significant enough to know that the current reported low inflation is in no way comparable to prior decades like the 50s when inflation was probably REALLY low. The decade of the 90s is 33% illusion/delusion/marketing/data mining/wishful thinking/ and 33% easy credit. That leaves 33% honest to goodness progress.
