VeriSign Secure Site Services Integrated Into E-Commerce Offerings of More Than 2200
ISPs, ASPs, and Web Hosting Companies

PR Newswire, Monday, June 28, 1999 at 11:20

Service Providers Enabled to Provide One-Stop Deployment of Virtual
Storefronts, Secure Extranets and Internet Portals Virtually Overnight
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRSN), the
world's leading provider of Internet trust services, today announced several major enhancements to its
Secure Site ISP Program which has grown to include over 2200 Internet Service Providers (ISPs),
Application Service Providers (ASPs), and Web hosting companies since being launched in January,
1999. The program places service providers' customers on the e-commerce fast track -- enabling the
deployment of trusted Internet storefronts, secure intranets and extranets, secure e-mail and
managed VPNs virtually overnight. Leading ISPs and Web hosting companies, including AboveNet,
Concentric, Digex, InterLand, Interpath, and Verio, have signed agreements to integrate VeriSign's
services with their e-commerce offerings, accelerating deployment across their broad and
rapidly-growing customer bases. These premier partners have also named VeriSign their Preferred
Provider of Internet trust services. (see related partner releases dated June 28, 1999).
The Web hosting market continues to enjoy unprecedented growth as businesses of all sizes
look to leverage the power of the Internet to market their products and services. Forrester Research, a
Cambridge, Mass.-based industry research firm reports that the entire U.S. Internet services industry
has grown from $1.3 billion in 1996 to $4 billion in 1998 and is projecting that it will reach $57 billion
by the year 2003.
"The exponential growth of e-commerce has mandated the need for enhanced trust and
security on a widespread level," said Doug Schneider, president of Verio Web Services. "Integrating
VeriSign's Secure Site services with our broad range of Web offerings is a major step toward meeting
this need, providing our customers' more than 260,000 Web sites with a one-stop approach to
securing their online activities."
VeriSign's Secure Site ISP program enables small, medium and large ISPs, ASPs and Web
hosting companies to integrate VeriSign's comprehensive range of digital certificate services into their
own e-commerce and enterprise offerings. Program enhancements, tailored to the needs of service
providers and their customers, include:
-- Availability of Global 128-bit, mail server, secure e-mail, and
virtual private networking digital certificate services
-- Industry-leading lifecycle services, allowing for seamless addition,
renewal and revocation of certificates
-- An automated enrollment interface enabling one-step provisioning of a
commerce-enabled Web site
-- A range of volume-based discounts and billing options for service
providers
-- Global promotion of customers' sites through the VeriSign Secure Site
Seal program and a special Secure Site designation in Network
Solutions' "dot com" directory, and
-- Educational guides, white papers, and online marketing content
These services provide customers with state-of-the-art capabilities previously available only to
large organizations, enabling small- and medium-sized businesses to build consumer confidence
when conducting online transactions over the Web. VeriSign's Secure Site ISP program also enables
ISPs and other service providers to differentiate themselves by providing services that integrate the
hosting, securing and promoting of customers' Web sites, extranets, and virtual private networks. "Our 2200 ISP partners combined serve a tremendous range of customers -- from new online
merchants to the largest Web portals on the Internet," said Richard Yanowitch, VeriSign's executive
vice president of worldwide marketing. "By partnering with ISPs, ASPs, and Web hosts, these new
Secure Site Services rapidly accelerate the wide availability of secure e-commerce services for Web
sites, large enterprises, and individuals."
Pricing and Availability
Membership in the Secure Site ISP program is available today for ISPs, ASPs and Web
hosting companies. Providers may enroll online at www.verisign.com/isp/index.html to begin enjoying
volume-based discounts on Web site digital certificates. Customers may choose from a range of
certificates, including Standard SSL and Global 128-bit certificates, the latter provided by VeriSign
