Sydney, June 29 (Bloomberg) -- John Fairfax Holdings Ltd., Australia's largest newspaper publisher, is set to unveil plans today to start an Internet auction house with a group of existing Internet companies, the Australian Financial Review, a Fairfax paper, said. Yahoo! Inc., Dell Computer Corp., and Amazon.com are among the potential partners for the new venture, along with Auction Universe, which is owned by a group of U.S. newspapers. The recent public listing of ecorp Ltd., formerly owned media rival Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd., is putting pressure on Fairfax to spin off its Internet ventures.

Fairfax said yesterday it will spend A$220 million (US145 million) on building a new color printing press in Melbourne, Australia's second largest city.<<
