(repeat news/different angle/plus I like the "mothership" part) Milpitas, Calif. - With Symbios Logic fully integrated into the mothership, LSI Logic Corp. is out to reinforce its leadership position in the storage I/O business with a series of Ultra3 SCSI and Fibre Channel serial interface boards for storage-area networks (SANs). LSI Logic plays in both halves of the storage business: the ASICs that find their way into peripherals such as disk and tape drives, and the higher-margin solutions used in SANs, servers and workstation clusters. That way, LSI can leverage its R&D over the peripherals and storage I/O sectors, said Harry Mason, strategic-alliance director at the company's storage components division.
