I used to work at an abortion clinic, as a receptionist, when I was in college. I was very gung-ho abortion rights. My shift was evenings and Saturday, and I stayed after the clinic closed, to answer the phone, I also did the pregnancy tests, told people who called in whether their test was negative or positive, I made appointments, and fielded calls when people who had abortions had complications. It was a good job for a college student.
I worked there for a couple of years. There was the controversy, and the doctor quit, and they brought in another doctor, and this one was willing to do second trimester abortions, as long as they weren't too far gone. And we kept the files in a separate part of the filing system. This was supposed to be kept hush-hush. I didn't really think much about it, until I saw the body parts in the sink trap. Early abortions are just tissue, the techs rinsed out the equipment in the sinks and autoclaved the equipment, and the stuff just rinsed right down the sink. The more advanced the pregnancy, the bigger the body parts, and the second-trimester ones clogged the sink trap with stuff like little hands.
I didn't feel so gung-ho after that. |
