Computron Announces Year 2000 Compliance
BusinessWire, Thursday, March 20, 1997 at 11:57
RUTHERFORD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 1997--Computron Software, Inc., reported today that the Year 2000 will not cause problems for users of its Financial, Workflow, COOL, and Maintenance and Work Management software applications. Computron anticipated the need to display and store centuries, as well as make calculations involving inter-century numbers. These standards have been enforced since the 1987 introduction of the 2.0 version of Computron Financial applications. Computron's Workflow, COOL and Maintenance and Work Management products were developed after this date and have always been Year 2000 compliant. Computron's architecture is based on both generalized access to databases and generalized access to date formatting and calculations. This generalized access means that all date calculations go through the same processing, regardless of the actual century or centuries. Issues like backdating across centuries will be handled by standard routines and will not cause problems. "The fact that Computron understood the magnitude of the Year 2000 problem 10 years ago demonstrates Computron's understanding of the software marketplace and its ability to develop innovative solutions," said Alex Plavocos, Computron's vice president of marketing "Our recognition and early solution of the Year 2000 problem allows our clients to focus on their core business objectives." The Year 2000 poses significant challenge for the information technology industry and will impact business applications, package solutions, and systems software. Most software programss have been written to accept two- digit dates, such as "95" for 1995, and will not accommodate entries for the additional two-digit century. These programs now need to be modified to read and accept four-digit date entries. According to recent analysis from Gartner Group, the total global cost to resolve the Year 2000 problem will be between $300 billion and $600 billion. Failure to interpret the century after December 31, 1999, could cause widespread work flow stoppages for companies working in data- and date-intensive industries.
