I think it is credible that there would be more deaths. However, I think that it is so easy to get away with abortions, at least early in a pregnancy, that if it is lucrative, the current crop of abortion providers will simply be driven underground, and therefore most everyone who seeks an illegal abortion will have competent medical attention. We constantly hear that the vast majority of abortions are early in the pregnancy, and that few abortion providers will do late term abortions anyway. Also, different states will take different tacks, and those concerned can spend their money on subsidizing abortions, instead of lobbying. But the main thing is this: if there is sufficient reason to seek to ban the procedure, the consequences of violating the law are not really my concern, unless they are horrific...
