CD-RW Drives and Disks Crashing Down In Price

the following article touches on the dramatic price drops in CD-RW drives and disks, as well as Iomega's entry into the field.

Japan's CD-RW Price Plunges
... CD-RW discs, with a sharp price cut to 400 yen, hold a significant lead in terms of price over Zip media (US$10 or so). Even in terms of the price for devices, the CD-RW device is getting closer to the Zip. The price of the embedded CD-RW device has come to as low as US$150, while the Zip is priced at US$80.

The price for CD-RW drives has been cut in half the past 6 months, and CD-RW disks have come down 70%-80% in the same timeframe. Iomega ZipCD will eat into that would have gone to higher margin Zip and Jaz drive and especially disk sales. Iomega, welcome to the wonderful world of pure-commodity pricing. Margins? What Margins?
