Activate.net Partners With AboveNet For Superior Broadcast
Communications Network

SEATTLE and SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 29, 1999-- Activate.net Corporation, the leader in connecting businesses with their audiences using streaming media, announced today it has entered into an agreement with AboveNet. Activate.net has joined AboveNet's East Coast Internet Service Exchange(TM)(ISX(TM)) in Vienna, Virginia.
AboveNet (Nasdaq:ABOV) the architect of a global one-hop network that brings together high-bandwidth content sites, ISPs, and Application Service Providers (ASPs) in centralized co-location facilities, will provide Activate with a reliable high bandwidth network that is ideal
for quality live broadcast. Activate provides a broad range of solutions that incorporate audio, video, and slide presentations that are broadcast via the Internet to the employees, customers, partners and shareholders of Activate's client companies.

Both companies will be exhibiting this week at the Streaming Media '99 conference in New York. AboveNet is the Exclusive Connectivity Partner for the conference and can be seen in booth 123. Activate is an event sponsor and can be seen in booth 119. Both companies will be featuring live streaming media from their respective booths. The two companies will also partner to develop and co-market new services that incorporate their respective technologies.

Businesses use Activate.net's services to broadcast business critical events including product launches, annual meetings, press conferences and one-to-one conferences with financial analysts and potential investors. Radio, TV and other content creators use Activate's specialized network to broadcast on a 24x7 basis. Activate selected AboveNet after evaluating and testing a number of co-location options. Key factors in Activate's selection were AboveNet's superior network performance and the extensive marketing support AboveNet provides partners within its ISX.

"The results of our tests indicate that AboveNet will significantly enhance what we do with streaming media and live Internet broadcasts," said Stewart Chapin, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Activate. "AboveNet's infrastructure gives us the speed and clean, scalable
bandwidth our customers' live broadcasts require, allowing us to provide the highest quality solutions that are possible on the Internet today. In addition, AboveNet offers us opportunities to expand our business through joint marketing efforts, and by supporting our relationships with other partners in the ISX."

"In addition to providing its partners with a superior network and Internet connectivity, AboveNet provides fast growing companies, like Activate, with a strong supportive technical and marketing environment. We allow our partners to focus on growing their business,
freeing them from the complexities of network and facilities management," stated Warren J. Kaplan, President and Chief Operating Officer for AboveNet.

"AboveNet organizes and leads marketing programs that bring ISX partners together with potential customers and partners. These programs help our partners broaden their services offerings and increase their market penetration. We see tremendous potential for Activate's live broadcast services within our ISX and are pleased that they have chosen AboveNet for their connectivity solution partner," said Van Jepson, AboveNet Vice President of Marketing.

AboveNet provides a superior network for live Internet broadcasts and streaming media because it delivers the media stream to end-users quickly and intact. When packets of data comprising a media stream have to make multiple hops across the networks of the Internet in order to reach their final destination, some get lost, and as a result, the broadcasts end up choppy or are interrupted. AboveNet's ISX minimizes this multiple hops problem with a unique "one-hop" network that allows AboveNet to keep the packets on its network intact until they can be delivered as close as possible to their final destination. AboveNet's network has 10.5 Gbps of bandwidth -- the most connectivity available at any co-location facility -- and 256 private and public peering relationships with leading domestic and global ISPs.
