BTW, all, on the subject of the LS-120 performance upgrade, allow me to point out that the press release states that this will take the form of "commercially available" software. Some sort of caching software which will probably be specifically tuned for the LS-120. And possibly not free. But it would work with all LS-120 drives, not just new ones.

Interesting, but still not the death knell for the Zip.

It would be easily possible for Iomega to offer software caching for the Zip and/or Jaz as well. I think that might be a good idea, at least for the parallel models. IDE and SCSI are already plenty quick. Offering such software might be a good counter to this initiative on the part of the LS-120 team.

Of course, the fact that they feel it is necessary to use software to improve performance indicates that OR Tech, et al, do understand that the LS-120's sluggishness is a marketing problem, as well as a technical one.
