Wade, A good fact based and non biased competitive analysis is a tough undertaking. To do one right for one compnany would take 3-4 months of hard work by 4-5 people (I use to work 10-12 hours a day on one). Why? Because you have to move through a mountain of data and shit (pardon the french) to build a foundation on which to formulate perspectives of competition in the past, present and more importantly in the future. How the hell do you know that? And couldn't it be done sooner? I worked for a consulting firm that specialized in strategy formulation: McKinsey & Company (World undisputed premier strategy consulting firm). You could do it sooner; however, the sooner you get it done the lower the quality. If more people were interested and willing to contribute we could get together and work on a competitive analysis. People can email me at exsearch@hotbot.com. Or you can just pay for an analyst report; however, that will only give you a finance perspective on current and future valuation.
