When it comes down to the basics there is really only price and volume and their interaction. But just like calculators are replaced by computers, technology has allowed alot of indicators to be improved upon. One I like is stochastics, a very basic one. Computers have allowed something as simple as a stochastic to be smoothed with no bar lag and made adaptive to price or volume changes. The performance is not even comparable to the old one. The best point is to keep it simple... some of todays best indicators or principles are just offshoots of stoch, macd or momentum. Bottom line is.... whatever makes good profitable trades.

I tried developing indicators it is a BIG distraction and there are others far better at it than me.

By the way I found someone who wrote their own Demark studies from his book and sells them for many less $$$$$. 300 vs 1600.
