POOH: A bear-trap is a term coined by technical-analysts that describes a stock that breaks down, usually through seemingly solid-support, continuing the downtrend...then reverses, snaps back where it shouldn't if the down move is to be valid...thus "trapping the "bears" or those who are short. The flip-side is the bull trap...a "failed" break-out. You can see bear and bull traps in the market as well...take a peek at a chart of RNWK...two weeks ago the stock broke to the low-mid 50's, failed to continue down, snapped back to 72-74...that was a bear-trap.
