PX Expo Report form MacinTouch!

Here are some quotes from this article written about PC Expo. Pay careful attention to the massive problems of Jaz and the Orb's real-world blazing performance speed!

macintouch.com

...Over the last year, I estimate I've encountered 10 failed Zip or Jaz drives and 20 failed disks. Several of these failures were devastating to my clients because they didn't have backups. I raised my concerns about unreliability and cited some examples of problems with Stephen DiFranco, General Manager of the Jaz Group at Iomega. Our conversation was fascinating...

...Then he went on to concede, "The Jaz drive does not have a door. If we had it to design over again we'd design it with a door." (A door would reduce the amount of dirt that gets into the drive which he cited as one of the most common causes of failure.)...

... DiFranco said that 30% of their Jaz customers use their drives for graphics applications. And yet Iomega products are most likely to fail when used heavily and/or when used in art studios. They seem to know this and are willing to replace failed disks and drives, but are unable to make significant design changes to their existing products to solve the problems that their most-demanding users encounter frequently...

While benchmarks performed on different computers with different system versions should be taken with a grain of salt, I think it's safe to say that Orb blows the doors off Jaz II.

The USB Orb is actually an Ultra-SCSI with a USB adaptor cable- you can use it with SCSI or USB computers-cool! I'm going to get the USB model!
