Not petty at all. I do it all the time but then I am a Canadian living in B.C., probably highest taxed area in North America, if you consider federal and provincial rates. I agree though. This is artificial and same option should be available to all investors, regardless of domicile. I mean companies get around this by doing a pooling-of-interest mergers so why should the investor be penalized.

May be I should just move to Washington since weather seems to be about the same. Incidentally, Forbes or may be it was Fortune, rated Washington as one of the tax friendly (no state tax) and death friendly (apparently no inheritance tax) states in US.
