Yes, slavery was the original form of "cheap labor", and it has been practiced throughout the history of mankind. The Roman Empire would not have endured without the help of this cheap labor. The Greeks and Egyptions also practiced slavery. In most cases, cannibalism was not developed as a need for food, but a sense of assuming strengths of the departed one. In the case of Donner pass, it was the stark reality of survival.

To some freedom is given, but others have to fight harder for it. Guess who appreciates it the most. As far as human life not being sacred, I disagree. Ask yourself, what principles was this country founded upon?
