They say not to. But, if Russ is very small, I would put on plastic gloves and gently return him. His parents are near,and will protect him, but I don't know what danger lurks in your area: snakes, crows, cats, dogs, etc. Good luck, we have to take care of little Russ too. I have a birdhouse outside my window, with cute little wrens who warble all day, entertaining, safely, my cats and dogs. I put a birdbath next to it, but they haven't used it yet.
