Fred & ALL: RE: China Market

I think it is premature for any sensible high-tech marketeer to try to break the Chinese market - in anything but an exploratory way. For a number of reasons:

- china doesn't yet sufficiently protect patent and property rights
- except for 'experimental' areas where capitalism is being tried (actually it is called "free market socialism") people are dirt poor and will not be shopping for computers for a while.

Finally, there are just too many other places where an emerging middle and upperclass makes investment worthwhile, right now - like asia and latin america.

You see Coke, Pepsi and McDonalds in these places first because people can afford soda and burgers long before they can afford walkmans.

IOmega is putting its efforts where they will yield the greatest likelyhood of success. China can wait.
