InnovaCom's TransPEG Product Purchased for Important Kern County Government Project
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1999--InnovaCom Inc. (OTC BB:MPEG - news) Friday announced that Burst Communications has been awarded the contract to supply Kern County with InnovaCom's TransPEG 200(TM) Transceivers to provide high-quality compressed video for its government access television station, KGOV.
Kern County, the third largest county in California spanning more than 8,000 miles, has selected InnovaCom's TransPEG(TM) to compress video, in MPEG format, to extend the television station's reach to cable company providers in the mountain and high desert portions of the county. InnovaCom's system allows KGOV engineers to set up a Studio Transmission Link in Mojave, where residents can view county proceedings locally -- saving both time and travel.
''InnovaCom has exceeded our expectations,'' stated Rick Davis, KGOV station manager for Kern County. ''Their team expertly met our technical challenges, special designs and specific applications, in an attempt to deliver the highest quality video format to our residents.'' KGOV master control, located in Bakersfield, will compress video streams over multiple bonded T1's for expanded bandwidth and higher quality transmission.
Within the next 18 months, Kern County plans to purchase more encoders from InnovaCom to move forward with its migration toward ATM transmission. ''One critical factor in the decision to select InnovaCom's system is their position within the industry as a leader in ATM transmission,'' said Davis. ''In addition, we are confident in the capabilities of their engineering team, as they will be assisting us during the ATM migration process.''
InnovaCom's TransPEG family of products is designed to facilitate MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video transmission over Native ATM/LANE, Fast Ethernet and T1/E1 based networks. Because TransPEG's architecture allows a direct connection into the network switch, precious bandwidth is reserved for video, resulting in higher quality video transmissions.
''Prior to selecting InnovaCom, Kern County considered other MPEG video encoding systems, and InnovaCom met all of our specifications at the lowest overall price,'' concluded Davis. ''TransPEG provides a quality encoding system with solid value, exceptional features and scalability to other network configurations as our bandwidth requirements expand.''
''Kern County is an important win for InnovaCom,'' said Frank Alioto, InnovaCom's CEO and president. ''Kern County's selection of TransPEG confirms that it is a superior tool for MPEG video delivery over networks and we are extremely pleased to have gone head-to-head with the competition and been selected as the video compression equipment of choice for this division of government.''
