[Good write-up]

Pat,

Good write-up.

The "MCI rural America plan" is a "cost effective way" for MCI to establish market leadership.

MCI does have switches and invested billions infrastructure in
large cities...not so easy to do this in rural america. The Power Company
loves the idea because their industry is undergoing 'deregulation"..so they
provide more value added then someone selling electrcity from far away. Not
to mention the fiber they have laying in the ground across America.

I'm not sure why MCI doesn't offer these services to business customers in large
cities? Maybe they using this as the "trial" for large city deployment
sometime in the future.

When MCI said "we are offering services for unbudled loops" it means, MCI
can get access to the customer without paying access charges becuase
the power company is buying minutes from MCI and reselling. This way
MCI gets minutes on thier network.

The business model for this must be pretty interesting.

I didn't like the "video trials as phase two part"...maybe they need
to line up a content player who will sell "video on demand" ..not
sure if this is part NWITA's (Northwest Iowa Telephone) plans. Also
note that 2 out of three customers are deploying HFC as opposed to
ADSL...I wish I knew why?

Too bad they didn't spend much time on the vendors...hmmm.

More random thoughts...on a very nice day.

Bob
