Wayne,

<<I just suspect that it was never this bad and the general excesses were never this extreme.>>

This may or may not be true. I'm not old enough or experienced enough to have a real long term perspective on this. However, as with many things these days, information flow is so much easier and faster that I think it may be that we're just much better informed and knowledgeable than we were in the old days. Heck, I gotta believe my own personal education in the stock market took a much shorter period of time than that of the elders in my family. If I had to either rely on the info my broker spewed out or hit the library to view a three month old Value Line every time I wanted to learn something, I'd be a whole lot more ignorant than I believe I am now. So, I think many people these days just understand the system much better than folks in the past. One no longer has to be an insider to know how some of these shenanigans work. Heck, the old timers on Wall Street must really be lamenting the advent of the Internet. Makes it a lot harder to pull the wool over the eyes of the sheep. However, don't get me wrong, I know and you know that there will always be sheep and for that, the boys on Wall Street drink heavily to each and every night.
