Although I've generally found it self-delusional to buy into Street gymnastics that might actually benefit me, I wanted to see if I could quantify your thoughts on Merrill and H&Q's trading behavior today. It's really something. Going back to 11am today, you can see that MLCO never ONCE offered more than 100 shares and were apparently never taken even once. In fact, as of 11:15am, it was never within 1 point of the best offer. (Too tedious to go back all the way to the open). H&Q is equally interesting. After being the inside offer most of the afternoon, at precisely 3:29pm, it went to a 27 to 27 3/4 (10x1) market, and never budged. Sorta' like the inverse of a MM doing a corporate buyback for a corp. and has to be out of the market during the last half hour. (SOP for a pending opinion change?)

Especially given the circumstances you've referred to, this all may in fact mean something.
