Communications

PR Newswire, Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 08:50

Pact Features Bundling of VeriSign Digital Certificates with Verio Web Hosting
Plans, E-commerce Solutions, E-mail, and other Business Applications
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Verio Inc. (NASDAQ:VRIO), the world's largest
domain-based Web-hosting company, and VeriSign (NASDAQ:VRSN), the world's leading provider of
Internet trust services, today announced an agreement to integrate VeriSign's digital certificates with
Verio's comprehensive line of Web hosting, e-commerce and other Web-based business applications.
Digital certificates provide electronic credentials that enable authenticated and encrypted
communications and transactions between sites and individuals over the Internet. This agreement
offers Verio customers an automated approach to deploying secure Web sites and other business
applications such as e-commerce and e-mail.
Automating the digital certificate enrollment and lifecycle process using tools provided by
VeriSign, Verio will integrate VeriSign's digital certificates into its Web hosting packages. In addition,
the two companies plan to offer other trust services to Verio's customer base including secure e-mail
products, security training, and certification programs. To promote these joint offerings, Verio and
VeriSign will collaborate on a range of co- marketing programs specifically targeting Verio's business
customer base, which includes more than 260,000 hosted Web sites. Under the terms of the
agreement, Verio joins VeriSign's Secure Site ISP/Web Host program as a Premier Partner and
names VeriSign its Preferred Provider of trust services for its rapidly growing business customer base.
"This agreement represents another Verio initiative to make conducting secure on-line activities
easy for small and medium-sized businesses," said Doug Schneider, president of Verio Web
Services. "As our customers put more of their business on the Web, they need simple solutions to
their security requirements. By teaming with the industry leader in trust services, we immediately
provide our customers with a streamlined process to ensure the integrity of their communications and
transactions."
"This partnership truly provides a best-of-breed solution for small businesses looking to engage
in secure on-line activities," said Stratton Sclavos, president and CEO of VeriSign. "As the leader in
Web hosting, Verio will be an excellent partner in our quest to eliminate the security and
authentication barriers of the Internet and to help businesses compete in the new Net economy."
